Let There Be Light: Increasing older adult awareness and action to promote aging in place
Brief Summary
There is strong evidence that improved lighting can promote successful aging in place. However, barriers to uptake of improved lighting include lack of awareness, lack of access to products, and limited support for making these simple modifications to a home. The purpose of this project is to develop and implement an evidence-informed aging in place program, focused on lighting, for community-dwelling older adults in Pennsylvania.
Objectives
- Develop a low-tech lighting toolkit for older consumers (primary prevention model)
- Create a toolkit training and delivery model for delivery through senior centers
- Implement lighting toolkit program across PA senior centers
Results
This research is currently in progress.
Community Impact
Results of this work are expected to have an immediate and sustained positive impact on aging in place for older adults in Pennsylvania and particularly in rural communities.
