Inglis Statewide Housing Conference – Opening Doors Together 2026

The University of Pittsburgh Healthy Home Laboratory (HHL) participated in the 2026 Inglis Opening Doors Together Conference in Harrisburg, a statewide gathering focused on advancing accessible housing, independence, and quality of life for people with disabilities and older adults.
Representing HHL, Jon Pearlman and Haomin (Leon) Hu engaged with attendees through an HHL exhibit booth, a project presentation, and the conference’s Enabled Home Showcase. The team shared HHL’s work in home accessibility, assistive and enabling technologies, and research supporting independent living, while connecting with peers, service providers, advocates, and organizations working across Pennsylvania.
As part of the Enabled Home Showcase, Jon and Leon delivered a live pitch and demonstration highlighting HHL’s research environment and technology innovations designed to improve accessibility, independence, and daily living in the home. The showcase featured assistive technology demonstration sites, smart homes, laboratories, and other innovation environments
from across Pennsylvania. HHL received second place in the showcase pitch competition, recognizing the team’s work and its contribution to technology-enabled solutions for people with disabilities and older adults.
The conference also provided an opportunity for the HHL team to exchange ideas with organizations working across disability services, accessible housing, assistive technology, and community-based supports, strengthening
connections between research, technology development, and real-world implementation.
